Side Missions
- •Main story missions drive the plot. Side content is optional.
- •Strangers and Freaks = question mark icons on the map.
- •Hobbies: tennis, golf, darts, triathlon, street races.
- •Random events pop up while driving around.
- •None required to finish the story, but many count toward 100%.
What is side content?
Anything not required for the main story. Side missions add flavor, humor, and extra activities. You can ignore all of it and still finish the campaign.
Strangers and Freaks
Question mark (?) icons on the map. Short mission chains from odd characters (UFO cult, paparazzi, bounty hunter, etc.). Usually one character only. Fun distractions, not critical to the plot.
Tip: Do these when you want a break from heists or when the map feels empty between story missions.
Hobbies and activities
Tennis, golf, darts, arm wrestling, triathlons, and street races unlock as you play. Found via map icons or phone. Good for learning controls and earning small amounts of money.
Random events
While driving, you may see muggings, hitchhikers, or crashes. Stop and interact for small rewards or funny moments. Completely optional.
When to do side content
Anytime between story missions. Many players save Strangers and Freaks for after the main story. Lester's optional assassinations should wait until after the story if you want stock market profit (see Stock Assassinations guide).
Tip: Going for 100%? Use the Collectibles & 100% Checklist to track Strangers and Freaks, hobbies, and random events.
