What happens at unlock?
Rockstar has not announced a launch hour, so treat any precise claim with suspicion, including ours. The one real signal is the storefronts. Sony and Microsoft set a release timestamp per market, and checked in July 2026 the US listing read 05:00 UTC, the UK listing 00:00 UTC and the German listing 23:00 UTC on the 18th. Those are three different moments, and each one is local midnight in its own market, which points to a rolling unlock rather than one synchronised worldwide moment. Some outlets reported a single global unlock after reading only the US listing. The countdown on this page therefore runs to midnight on your own clock. Pre-load usually opens a day or two beforehand, and expect a large day-one patch before you play.
Tip: This is a strong hint rather than a promise. Storefront timestamps are set by the platform holder, not Rockstar, and local midnight is also just the conventional way a store encodes a release date.
